As part of the EURO-BASIN project, the R/V G.O. Sars undertook a cruise from Bergen to Nuuk and back during May and June 2013. Mesozooplankton was sampled on stations in the basins of the Norwegian, Iceland, Irminger and Labrador Seas. We investigate the major basin scale differences in species composition, vertical distribution, phenology and abundance of the mesozooplankton community. Further, we analyze these differences in relation to both biotic (chlorophyll and predators) and abiotic (light, temperature and salinity) factors in order to enhance our understanding of the underlying ecological similarities and differences in these four important ocean basins.
