Vertebral counts on samples from ports on different parts of the Irish coast have been commenced, using market samples mainly, counting the vertebras from the left side from the tail forward until the swimbladder is reached, and thereafter from a ventral aspect forward to the first vertebra. The urostyle was not counted. Experiments in boiling fish were tried, but discontinued.
