An attempt is made to estimate coefficients of the natural mortality and abundance of different year classes of cod at stages of 0-group, 0+, 1+ and 2+. The basis is a model of survival of the abstract cod generation from 0-group to the age of 2+ and the assumption that variability of abundance at this stage of fish life is sufficiently less than the variability of the corresponding indices. The coefficients of natural mortality 􀀞 independent on the populational density are calculated coming from the assumption that they are stable for cod at the age of 0+ to 2+. It is shown that coefficients 􀀞 depend on the summarized average weighed abundance of cod at the age of 1-4 years, temperature minimum, mean biomass of capelin and mean abundance index of euphausids during the first two years of cod life. Coefficients 􀀞 are approximated by the empiric multiplicative model. Abundances of different year classes of cod at the age of 3 determined by both the proposed method and by one-species VP A method agree satisfactorily.
