Blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou) in the NE Atlantic has been of commercial interest since the 1970’s. Initial studies on the biology of the stock identified some morphological and meristic indicators of stock separation; thereafter, it has consistently been acknowledged that separate stocks exist in the NE Atlantic with some degree of overlap.
