March 11 2011 the debate on whether to start extracting oil and gas in the Lofoten area, came to an end. One of the central questions raised in the debate was if it is possible to combine petroleum activity with justifiable management of other natural resources, especially with the fisheries. Scientists at the Norwegian Institute for Marine Research contributed with work that hopefully could give an answer to this question
