Until recently snow crab Chionoecetes Opilio (Fabricius, 1788) occurred in the north seas of the Pacific Ocean and in the north-western Atlantic Ocean. In 1996 this species was found in the Barents Sea for the first time (Kuzmin et al., 1999). was assumed to get there with ballast waters of vessels from the Northwest Atlantic.
