Anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) in the southern part of Division 9.a (Gulf of Cadiz and southern coast of Portugal). Replacing advice provided in June 2024.
Please note: The present advice covers the calendar year 2025, and replaces the advice provided in June 2024 for the southern component in Division 9.a from January–June 2025
ICES advises that when the precautionary approach (PA) is applied, catches in 2025 should be no more than 7 266 tonnes.
The use of a combined total allowable catch (TAC) for the western and southern stocks prevents effective control of single stock exploitation rates and could lead to the overexploitation of either stock. ICES advises that management should be implemented at the stock level.
