Please note: The present advice replaces the advice provided in June 2024 for catches in 20242025 for the western component of anchovy in Division 9.a.

ICES advises that when the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) approach is applied, catches should be no more than 22 481 tonnes. The advice is for the period 01 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.

The use of a combined total allowable catch (TAC) for the western and southern stocks prevents effective control of single component exploitation rates and could lead to the overexploitation of either stock. ICES advises that management should be implemented at the stock level.
