Delete - Report of the Herring Assessment Working Group for the Area South of 62°N (HAWG), Sec7
In 1997 the Working Group did not undertake an analytical assessment of this stock due to continued uncertainty about
the fishing mortality and level of SSB. ACFM undertook an analysis using RCSEP1 (Cook et al. 1991) and concluded
that the stock seems able to sustain the current fishing mortality. Consequently ACFM forecast a status quo fishing
mortality which would give a catch of around 6,500 t in 1998. A TAC of 9,000 t was again adopted for 1998 and
partitioned as 2,340 t to the Republic of Ireland and 6,660 t to the UK.
