Herring (Clupea harengus) in Division 7.a North of 52°30’N (Irish Sea). Replacing advice provided in November 2024

Please note: the present advice replaces the advice given in November 2024 for catches in 2025.

ICES advises that when the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) approach is applied, catches of herring in the Irish Sea in 2025 should be no more than 3 206 tonnes.

The fishery for Irish Sea herring (her.27.nirs) includes fish from the Celtic Sea herring stock (her.27.irls), which is below Blim. To be consistent with ICES advice catches of Celtic Sea herring should be zero tonnes.
