ICES Guidelines on Non-Fisheries Conservation Considerations
Version 3, 7 May 2024: Text corrected to reflect when Conservation status section should be deleted from the advice sheet.
This is a new edition of `ICES Technical guidelines on conservation status advice, 3 November 2022. https://doi.org/10.17895/ices.advice.21435987´.
The guidelines describe the purpose, content, and methodology for delivering conservation considerations to the ICES fishing opportunities advice. The information in this document is relevant for all ICES stock assessment expert groups and also for interested policymakers, stakeholders, and the wider scientific community.
Changes since last edition:
In title, all text, Figure 1 and Annex 1 - Change from “Conservation status advice” to “Non-fisheries conservation considerations”
In "Option 3" (text and Figure 1) - Rewording the standard sentence to: “ICES has not identified any conservation aspects other than those related to the commercial fisheries”
In: "Option 4" (text and Figure 1) - Add new question “Are conservation aspects for a given stock/species reviewed by ICES?” to Figure 1 and a standard sentence (in case of “no” answer) for the advice: “Conservation aspects and associated management measures may exist at a national or regional level but were not reviewed by ICES”
In: “Basis of the advice” section - Change to: “Ecosystem-based management (EBM) considerations”
