Report by Correpsondence of the Study Group on Elasmobranch Fishes
The background of the study group and it's scope of work were extensively handled in the 1995 report. In the same report the fisheries throughout the North Atlantic Ocean was treated on a country by country basis and an attempt was made to detennine the stock status for various species. Other topics included the ecological role of elasmobranch fish (predation and competition), reproductive dynamics, techniques for age determination and verification in elasmobranchs, modelling and assessment and compensatory mechanisms (Anon., 1995).
