In 2009 the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) and the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) formed the first joint working group (the Working Group on Forecasting Climate Change Impacts on Fish and Fisheries, WGFCCIFS). The first task of WGFCCIFS was to convene a symposium to provide a venue for the exchange of scientific information and the discussion of the issues and challenges related to predicting the future impacts of climate change on the world’s marine ecosystems. Working group members convened a symposium in Sendai, Ja-pan on 26–30 April, 2010. Selected papers from the symposium will be published in the July 2011 issue of the ICES Journal of Marine Science. This report summarizes key outcomes of this symposium as relevant to the Terms of Reference for the Working Group.
