Report of the Study Group on Redfish Stocks (SGRS)
Highlights:
• The detailed planning of the international trawl/acoustic survey on pelagic redfish in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters in June/July 2007 has been agreed by all
participating countries (Germany, Iceland and Russia).
• Hydroacoustic measurements as well as pelagic trawls will be used for abundance and biomass estimation of redfish (see Section 2.3-2.5).
• The survey area covers around 400 000 square nautical miles, with a total acoustic track distance of 9100 nautical miles (Section 2.1), several trawl hauls (Section 2.5), biological sampling (Section 2.6) and hydrographic measurements (Section 2.7).
• 2007 offers the unique opportunity for participation of the employed vessels in a concurrently conducted whale survey in the North Atlantic. The participating countries have offered vessel capacities to support these activities (see Section 2.8.2).
