The Working Group on the Application of Genetics in Fisheries and Mariculture (WGAGFM) met in Bangor, UK, 4–6 May 2011. The meeting was very well attended; with a total of 24 representatives present from 11 countries. In addition a number of master and PhD students were attending parts of the meeting. WGAGFM have established a three-year period for the Chair person, and this meant that this year we had an election of a new Chair. There were two candidates and Dorte Bekkevold (Denmark) was elected the new Chair.
