Report of the Working Group on the Effetcs of Extraction of Marine Sediments on the Marine Ecosystem

The Working Group was welcomed to lIaarlem by Dr H Speelman (Director, Netherlands Institute of Applied Geosciences, NITG-TNO) and Ir D Tromp (lCES delegate for the Netherlands). Dr S J de Groot outlined the role and function of the Working Group stressing the importance of the multidisciplinary composition ofthe group. Ir Tromp opened the Workshop on Large Scale Sand Extraction in the Coastal Zone of the Netherlands and welcomed the Working Group's attendance and participation in this meeting.
