Report of the working Group on the Assessment of Hake Stocks

At the ICES Statutory Meeting in 1985 it was decided C.Res.1985/2:3:15) that:

The Working Group on the Assessment of the Stocks of Hake (Chairman: Mr B.W. Jones) will meet at ICES headquarters from 25 June 2 July 1986 to:

1) assess the status of the hake stocks in Sub-areas IV-IX including:

a) review the exploitation patterns of the hake fisheries and advise on any measures required to improve them;

b) review the information available on discards and catches of undersized hake;

c) analyse the available CPUE data series and interpret the temporal changes;

d) describe the historical changes in the fleets fishing for hake.

2) review the methods used in groundfish surveys for hake and provide recommendations for the future conduct of surveys.
